Founded in 1972 by a group of dedicated dermatologists from different countries, FIDE awards travel grants and scholarships to young dermatologists from developing countries to attend international, national and regional dermatology meetings. FIDE has been a strong supporter of dermatology education and outreach dermatologic care, including the Regional Dermatology Training Center (RDTC) in Tanzania and the Skin Clinic of Kamuzu Central Hospital in Malawi, founded by Professor Gunnar Lumholt, a charter member of FIDE.
